How Will the ISDN Switch Off Impact Your Business?

How Will the ISDN Switch Off Impact Your Business?

From December 2025, BT Openreach is closing all ISDN lines in the UK.

With analogue phone lines ending, it’s time to go to Teams!

2025 will see the end of standard analogue telephone lines and over two million local UK businesses will be affected by the switch-off.

This means that companies still relying on (analogue) ISDN lines will feel the impact of the change. This may be because they are running an analogue fax machine or telephone system, which will need upgrading to a digital version.

How can you adapt to this change?

1. Intelligent Workspaces:

  • Companies are already rethinking their workspaces, creating collaborative environments that inspire teams.
  • With fast and reliable connectivity, employees can enjoy a great experience regardless of their location.
  • Cutting-edge innovations will take employee engagement to the next level.

2. Reduced Office Costs:

  • Voice communication will become fully digital, delivered over the internet using Voice-over Internet Protocol (VoIP) technology.
  • Say goodbye to costly, old-fashioned analogue phone lines in your offices and hello to Teams calls.

3. Hyperconnectivity:

  • Faster networks post-switch-off will keep teams tightly connected.
  • Collaborating with colleagues and customers will be hassle-free.

4. Greater Efficiency:

  • Improved call quality translates to increased productivity and efficiency.

5. More and Improved Home Working:

  • Hybrid work is here to stay, and a fully digital network will enable better video conferencing, file sharing, and cloud-based collaboration.
  • Remote and hybrid workforces can communicate more effectively.

Key Dates for your Diary

From September 2023

  • Any broadband or phone services that use the old copper network will no longer be sold.

2024

  • Now is your chance to cancel your contracts and get yourself switched over for the big change!

December 2025

  • The PSTN will be switched off and all UK landlines will cease to operate.

1 January 2026

  • All home or phone calls will be hosted via the internet

In summary, the ISDN switch off presents both challenges and opportunities.
Businesses that adapt to the digital landscape will thrive, while those unprepared may face communication gaps. It’s time to embrace the future! 🚀
